WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. United put on a show for its 17,288 fans who showed up to see the black and red take on Real Salt Lake. The United got of to a rocky start with the visiting side taking the lead early on. Joao Plata’s left footed effort went through the defense past a diving Andrew Dykstra to give Salt Lake a 1-0 lead. RSL maintained control getting a second goal, as Beckerman's blast from 30 yards out beat Dykstra for a 2-0 lead.

Though the game was not going according to plan, D.C. refused to go down without a fight, getting one goal back near halftime when Davy Arnaud passed the ball on the left to Chris Rolfe, who had a go on goal but it deflected and found its way back to his feet.  Rolfe quickly had another go and curled the ball around Jeff Attinella. Things started to turn in D.C. United’s favor in the 53rd minute when Sandoval pulled Bobby Boswell in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Rolfe stepped up and rifled the ball over Attinela to tie the game at 2 all. Roughly six minutes later, a clearance found its way to Taylor Kemp, who made no mistake, pounding a first-time rocket into the net to give D.C. a 3-2 lead.

RSL refused to go down without a fight, and within 3 minutes brought the game back level when Morales crossed in a free kick for Aaron Maund to head home on the doorstep. D.C. United continued its barrage with United regaining control. It all started when Saborio's shot was pushed out by Attinella on to the feet of an onrushing Espindola who made no mistake placing the ball into the back post.

In the 68th minute, Real Salt Lake would again get back into the game when Abdoulie Mansally racing down the left side, collected a pass and blasted the ball over Dykstra and into net to once again tie the game at 4-4. In front of the home crowd, the United refused to give up and kept on fighting for the win. A short corner from Espindola to Kemp was followed by a brilliant service into the box that found Perry Kitchen who headed past Attinella to give United the lead and what seemed like an extra boost of energy not only for the players but also the fans.

Nick Deleon sealed the win in the 85th minute when he fired a left-footed shot past Attinella from 23 yards out.

The win left D.C. United in a comfortable first place as they are now set for a few games on the road.
