On Sunday morning Finnish time, the relationship between Miikka Kiprusoff and Calgary Flames fans will reach a new level.

The goaltender's game number 34 will be raised to the roof of the Scotiabank Saddledome and will not be worn by the Flames.

An emotional feast will be held at night.

– People really like Miika in Calgary. The Flames were successful in the 1980s, but have been weak for a long time since then. Little by little the fans got a new hope. Jarome Ijinla and Micah were the faces of the club at the time, Calgary-based TSN analyst Craig Button told Ildalehti.

– He deserves all this.

Hall of Famine?

The button makes a lot of noise when talking about TPS Qashwat.

– In my opinion, there should be serious debate about his Hall of Fame selection. He was the toughest player in the NHL for ten years.

Kiprusoff finished his career in the spring of 2013 having played a total of 623 NHL regular season games.

At the end of the 2005–06 season, Turku became the first Finn to win the Vezina Award for the NHL's best goaltender.

“Kipper” won two Finnish championships at TPS and played two seasons at Stockholm's AIK before moving to North America in the fall of 1999.

Man's first NHL organization was the San Jose Sharks. Did not start with singing.

– A highlight of Micah's NHL career was Darryl Sutter coaching him in San Jose. Miikka is a promise there, but he's not NHL ready yet, Button said.

Sutter got the shoe from the Sharks and replaced Button as coach and general manager in Calgary.

Sutter, a relentless Alberta man, quickly signed Fin to the Flames.

– Daryl understood that Micah was very talented and signed him because he knew him. When Micah arrived in Calgary, everything went smoothly. It was a breath of fresh air for Micah, who had been the best in the world for 10 years after that, Button underlined.

Two items

Button served on the Dallas Stars management team before moving to TV. He points out two things about Kiprusov.

– The keeper always gave the team a chance to win. This boosted the confidence of the team.

– Another thing Mika scared the enemies. It was important. His impact on the entire Flames organization was huge. He led the team to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

That happened in the spring of 2004. The Flames lost the final series to Tampa.

A ridiculous amount of games

Mika Kiprusoff rarely played for the national team. AOP

In the case of Kryprusaf, the fact that he played the most matches always comes up. Kiper played more than 70 regular season games in seven consecutive seasons.

Such sums are not played today.

– He didn't play, he played at the highest level, Button underlines.

– Mika clearly liked playing and being a goalkeeper. He enjoyed success and didn't let the pressure affect him.
