From Top Contender to Declining Popularity

DeSantis was widely considered the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination and the natural successor to Trump because of his combative style and conservative values.

Even as early as last year, DeSantis was leading Trump in various polls, but his popularity has been falling for months.

DeSantis' decline in popularity has been attributed to a failed campaign strategy and Trump's strong position among the party's supporters.

DeSantis failed to convince Republican voters why he was a better candidate than Trump. At the same time, the votes of Republicans who want to oust Trump are evenly distributed among the other candidates. Moderate Republicans in particular have turned to Haley's supporters.
