Sydney policewoman hailed as hero after subduing knifeman

A female police officer arrived at the scene and arrested only the 40-year-old male suspect.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and foreign media have hailed a female police officer as a hero after she subdued a suspected stabbing man in a Sydney shopping centre. A British newspaper published this issue Guardian.

– He is definitely a hero. There's no doubt his actions saved lives, Albanese said.

A female police officer who was called to the scene was alone confronted by a 40-year-old man wielding a “giant” knife.

When the man confronted the police, he turned and raised the knife, after which the police had to shoot the suspect.

A shopping center customer who resisted the knife-wielding man has also been praised. A video of a man holding a pole in his hand to prevent him from reaching the top of an escalator has gone viral on social media.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said of the Guardian Police do not believe the attack has anything to do with terrorism.

He praised the female police officer and called her “very brave”, according to the Guardian.

A total of 7 people, including the suspect, were killed in Saturday's attack. One of the dead was the mother of a nine-month-old baby.
