According to the latest information, at least 16 people have been killed in armed attacks in Russia’s Dagestan, Reuters reported.

15 of the dead are said to be police officers. The death toll has at least doubled overnight. Also, an Orthodox priest who served in Derbent for more than 40 years died in the attacks.

The attacks reportedly took place at a police checkpoint, two local Orthodox churches and a synagogue in the city of Derbent.

According to media reports, the 66-year-old priest’s throat was reportedly slit. Other clerics of the church are said to have fortified themselves in the church and waited for help.
