Trains were delayed by up to four hours in the bitter cold – the roads were jammed with more cars than usual

Fintraffic's transport centers said the epiphany caused severe cold on Saturday, disrupting traffic on railways and roads.

On Saturday morning trains, the longest delay was almost four hours. Train connections from Helsinki to Rovaniemi and Kolar were very late. For example, the IC 265 connection to Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi was delayed by four hours and 20 minutes. PYO 263 connection was also delayed by four hours.

On Saturday, at least three departing train services will be canceled and replaced by buses.

According to the Swedish Rail Transport Agency, train passengers should also be prepared for traffic jams on Sunday.

VR braced itself for a bitterly cold weekend, having already announced the cancellation on Thursday. The company said at the time that it would cancel about 20 train services throughout the week.

Fintraffic's Tampere Road Traffic Center reported that more cars froze on the roads on Saturday and the previous days than usual due to winter weather.

A severe frost warning is valid across the country on Sunday, except for Lapland and Åland. Driving weather also took a turn for the worse in western parts of the country on Sunday evening. By the end of the week, the weather is expected to cool off, at least temporarily.
