The Maryland Women's Basketball team played their first and only exhibition game of the season this evening when they took on Team USA at Comcast Center in College Park MD.  Team USA is comprised of the best players from the WNBA, many of whom have been role models for Maryland players for years.

Maryland Senior Laura Harper said this about playing Lisa Leslie from Team USA: "I've been a fan of her since I was 9 or 10, so obviously I was honored to be playing on the same court as her. I wasn't really thinking about playing against her, but I loved being on the same floor as all of these amazing players."

Despite losing, The Terps gained a lot of confidence from tonight's game.  Junior Guard Kristi Tolliver remarked: "the fact that Harp(er) can battle against Lisa Leslie and Marissa can defend Diana Taurasi, the best scorer in the women's game right now; everyone has got to be on cloud nine now."

The Terps shot well in the first half and managed to keep Team USA's scoring within reach.  Down 21-14 the Terps went on a 10-2 to take a 2 point lead on Marissa Coleman's baseline jump shot with 6:48 left in the first half.  Maryland shot 16-35 in the first half (45%), and scored 4 three pointers on 11 attempts.
Maryland also played well on the defensive side of the court.  The Terps outrebounded Team USA 40-34 during the game, 28 of which were defensive.

Down 40-38 at the half The Terps had a fighting chance to walk out of Comcast with a win.  However, an 11-1 run by Team USA at the start of the 2nd half reminded everyone of the strength of the best players in the WNBA league.  Maryland managed to close the gap to 51-44 using 5 straight points scored by Kristi Tolliver, but Team USA countered with a 13-1 rally that put the game out of reach.

Witih 4 starters returning from last years 28-6 team the Terps are looking strong.  Their next game is the Preseason WNIT played on November 9 at 7pm in Comcast Center.
