COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland Terrapins extended their ACC winning streak this afternoon with a win over the 2007 ACC Conference Champion NC State Wolf Pack at the Comcast Pavilion.  Brendan Byrne pinned Taylor Cummings in the 125 lb weight class to get the Terps off to a good start, and Terrapin momentum lifted Maryland to a victory in the dual.  Byrne's pin came in the first period and shocked the NC State bench, as well as the Maryland faithful who gathered for this afternoon's event.

Steven Bell matched up with Darius Little and took it to two tiebreakers but eventually came away with a 4-2 win.  A fairly slow match ended in a 1-1 stalemate that carried over into tiebreakers, and Bell escaped to give himself a 2-1 advantage in the first tiebreaker only to be knotted up with 19 seconds remaining when Little escaped. A takedown by Bell gave him the 4-2 edge and the Terps a 9-0 advantage.

In the 141 lb weight class #7 ranked Joe Caramanica man-handled Jon Kohler in the early going, but Kohler was able to make up some ground towards the end of his match.  Kohler ended up losing 12-8 but his efforts in the 2nd and 3rd period were repsectable.

The #10 ranked Darion Caldwell from the 149 lb weight class faced off against Eric Medina.  Caldwell wore down Medina and nearly got Medina on his back on one occasion in the 1st period.  Medina hung in there though and recovered to lose by 4 points (12-8).  NC State's wins in the 141 and 149 lb weight class brought them to within 3 points of the Terrapins 9-6 lead.

Brian Letters got the Terps back on their winning ways with an 8-3 win over Colton Palmer.  Letters is now on a 5 match winning streak and he soundly defeated his Wolf Pack opponent.

Kennett and Letts from the Terps built on Letters' win with their own victories and lifted the Terps to a confident 21-6 lead coming down the home stretch.  However, a 4-1 win by Ryan Goodman over Terrapin Josh Haines sacked the Terps into a 21-9 advantage going into the 197 lb weight class and the heavyweight division.

Maryland's Hudson Taylor worked over Mark Jahad in the 197 lb weight class, and after several injury timeouts by NC State the Terrapins won by an injury decision.  NC State had several injury timeouts during the matches, but Taylor's win over Jahad was by far the most notable. Jahad left the mat clutching his right ear while being attended to by the NC State trainers.

Bobby Isola got the win over Patrick Gilmore in the heavyweight class. After several periods of grappling Isola scored the 5-2 decision to end the dual with a 27-12 Terrapin win.
